AI Agents
An agent is the AI receptionist that actually answers your calls. You give it a name, a greeting, a personality, and a voice — then activate it and connect a phone number.
What is an agent?
Think of an agent as one virtual member of your front desk. It has its own voice, speaks a language you choose, greets callers the way you want, and follows the instructions you write for it. You can run more than one — for example, a friendly receptionist for your main line and a separate agent for a different department or language.
You manage all of your agents from the AI Agents page in the left sidebar. Each agent shows its status, how many calls it has handled, its voice, and its language at a glance.
Create your first agent
On the AI Agents page, click Create Agent. You'll land on a configuration screen with tabs across the top. Fill in the essentials first:
- 1Name your agent something you'll recognize, like
Sarah — Front Desk. This name only appears in your dashboard and call logs. - 2Write a greeting — the very first thing callers hear when the agent picks up.
- 3Write a system prompt— this shapes the agent's personality and how it should behave on calls.
- 4Pick the agent's language.
- 5Click
Create Agentto save.
{{business_name}} and the agent will automatically fill in your business name when it speaks.Choose a voice
Open the Voice tab to decide how your agent sounds. First pick a provider, then pick a specific voice:
- Free Voices include a natural, native-accent voice for every language at no extra cost — a great default.
- Platinum and Gold use fast, natural built-in voices.
- Diamond is our most expressive, lifelike tier, with a full premium voice library to browse.
After choosing a provider, use the voice picker to select the exact voice, and adjust the speaking speed so it feels natural for your callers. You can fine-tune tone with the stability, similarity, and style sliders.
Set the language
Every agent has a primary language it speaks by default — English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and more. If you serve callers in several languages, open the Languagestab, switch the language mode to auto-detect, and enable the languages your agent should recognize. It can then detect the caller's language and respond in it, with a distinct voice per language if you like.
Tune how it handles calls
The remaining tabs let you shape the agent's behavior. A few you'll likely use:
- Behavior — set the maximum call duration, choose what happens after hours, and list keywords that should immediately escalate a caller.
- Calendar — let the agent book appointments during a call and set how long each appointment runs.
- Transfer— give the agent numbers to hand a call off to, including a human fallback for anything it can't handle.
- Compliance — turn on call recording and set the disclosure callers hear at the start.
Activate your agent
A brand-new agent starts as a Draft, which means it isn't answering calls yet. When you're happy with it, click Activate to set it Active. Need to take it offline for a while? Click Pause, and Resumewhen you're ready again.
- Draft — still being set up; not answering calls.
- Active — live and answering any number connected to it.
- Paused — temporarily off; keep the setup, stop taking calls.
Duplicate or delete
Each agent card has quick actions. Use Duplicate to copy an agent you already like as a starting point for a new one — handy for spinning up a second language or department without redoing all the settings. Use the delete action to remove an agent you no longer need.
Before you go live
- 1Save your agent and give the greeting and system prompt one more read.
- 2Test it first so you can hear the voice and how it responds before real callers do.
- 3Set the agent to Active.
- 4Head to Phone Numbers and assign a number to this agent.
